Tanzkompanie bo komplex

Bärbel Stenzenberger and Olaf Reinecke founded bo komplex at the end of 2009 with the intention of creating dance theatre under this label. Their work is marked by an idiosyncratic and individual abundance of forms beyond fashionable trends. Original, dense dance pieces emerge, which follow their topics closely. Oftentimes using an interdisciplinarian approach, bo komplex connects with other creative and artistic professionals from different genres, always on the lookout for new and topical aesthetic means of expression as well as artistic challenges. Dance in its variety of movemental technique remains at the forefront for this choreographical duo – Stenzenberger with her dance background based on a “classical“ path with a university degree and a theatre career, and Reinecke, “mover“, former ballroom dancer who never wanted to dance classical ballet and turned dancer while studying sports.

Bärbel Stenzenberger went to the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Künste in Mannheim and also did a short stint at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen under Pina Bausch, concluding her studies with a dance diploma at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Künste Frankfurt am Main. She does choreography for opera, musical, film, directs children’s operas and musicals and teaches.

Olaf Reinecke studied sports and exercise science with a course specialisation on dance at the University of Hamburg and, as an adolescent, won several German ballroom dance championship titles as well as reaching the semi-finals of the European championships. Apart from his sports studies, he learned modern and contemporary dance, subsequently having been globally involved in the independent dance scene since 1999. He worked as a performer at a number of German municipal theatres and has been busy as a choreographer and choreographical assistant for acting, dance, musical theatre and musical since 2003. Additionally, he teaches various dance and movement styles at different institutions nationally as well as internationally.
