Between pandemic and populism, war and climate catastrophe, we are experiencing a watershed: the community is fragmenting, certainties are being lost. In “Sainte Réalité”, Düsseldorf-based choreographer Ben J. Riepe tests a new community and invites the audience to an ecstatic live experience of song, dance, light and sound – harrowing and funny, exhilarating and painful at the same time.
“Sainte Réalité” is the conclusion of the series of the same name, which included a summer school in cooperation with universities in the region and a film. All three parts pose the core questions: How can we come to a different understanding of our own position in nature and re-locate ourselves as an equal part among many? “Sainte Réalité” is choreography and musical, spatial installation and reverie. It gives us an inkling of connectedness, perhaps even of catharsis and healing, and takes us into changing rituals of parting with what we thought was reality.
