Jan Rohwedder


Since 2009, Jan Rohwedder has been working on performative research that repeatedly turns to the object-like in choreography. Early works thematically deal with the power of images and iconic representations from politics, sport and advertising. In terms of content and form, the choreographies, performances and installations are structured according to instructions from scores and scores.
Since 2014, art spaces have also been transformed into performance and sound installations. Visitors to exhibitions there also become witnesses to performances through listening. The exploration of sound in connection with musical structures and score practices is increasingly leading to collaborations with composers and sound artists.

Jan Rohwedder, choreographer and performance artist, lives and works in Düsseldorf. In 2010, he founded the performance platform Rotterdam Presenta together with the artist and lighting designer Stine Hertel. Jan studied Applied Theatre Studies at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen and in the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He has presented his work at festivals at HAU Berlin, PACT Zollverein Essen, ZeitraumExit Mannheim, Theater RAMPE Stuttgart and at the festivals Freischwimmen, IMPULSE, FAVORITEN and Scènes d'Europe Reims (FR). Jan was artist in residence at Dansens Hus and Weld Stockholm, Meetfactory Prague, BUDA Kortrijk, experimental intermedia New York, ENPARTS Campus scholarship holder at the Venice Biennale.
