Reut Shemesh


Reut Shemesh, born in Israel, works in the fields of contemporary dance, poetry and experimental film and lives and works in Cologne. She received her BA from the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem (NL) and holds a Master's degree in Media and Fine Arts from the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne (DE).

Her works have been shown at tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf, TanzFaktur Köln, Kampnagel Hamburg, HELLERAU, EinTanzHaus Mannheim, Tanzhaus Zürich, Suzanne Dellal Center Tel Aviv, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Theatre Lab NYC, STUK Theater Leuven and the Korzo Theatre in The Hague, among others.
Tours have taken her to Israel, the USA, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Singapore and several festivals in Germany, including Tanzplattform Deutschland, Impulse Theatre Festival, MOVE! Krefeld and twice to the tanz nrw Festival and FAVORITEN festivals.
Her commissioned works include BAD MOTHERS (2022) for Theater Oberhausen and GOLA 3rd Movement (2022) for Maslool Dance School, which was shown at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv. Her video/film works have been selected for the Art Cologne Fair, the Oberhausen Short Film Festival, the Transitions Video Art Festival in Maastricht, the New York Buenos Aires (NYBA) Dance Film Fest and the TANZ AHOi Film Festival in Hamburg.
She is a regular guest lecturer at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the University of Cologne, the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (HSD) and the Centre for Contemporary Dance (ZZT) in Cologne, for which Reut has created several productions with studentsAs a woman, artist, mother and migrant, she often incorporates her own experiences into her work.
The piece ULTRA (2023) - Reut's co-creation for young audiences with the Belgian production house fABULEUS in Leuven (BE) - is currently touring Belgium and will be shown at tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf and TanzFaktur in Cologne in spring 2024.In 2024, she will also present her next production Youth & Uniform, a large-scale collaboration between fabrik Potsdam, K3 Hamburg, Fokus Tanz München and HELLERAU Dresden.
