Is fatherhood a model, a wish, a memory or simply reality? Fathers in their absence and presence are at the centre of the current dance production for a mixed-age audience by Hennermanns Horde. While social discourse tends to focus on the role of the mother, the concept of fatherhood often exists in the gap, determined by absence, work behaviour or authority. We want to name this gap, fill it, expose it to discussion and confront it with new models. To do this, we negotiate family situations and constellations on stage, rethink old and modern models of fathers and look for images that pick up the young people in their reality.

Four contemporary urban dancers confront the theme and, along with it, the dance form hip hop with its image of solidified masculinity rituals that need to be presented and deconstructed.

The stage with a single sofa as its centre serves as a living room, the centre of a household, a place of retreat, a place to sit, a meeting place for a family or becomes the standard setting for the favourite sitcom. Everything is negotiated here, and Darth Vader may not be missing, of course.
