Fabien Prioville’s works all share the same basis: Contrasts and opposites. His artistic focus lies on the exploration on the inner feelings of a human being. They are observations from everyday life that serve as the inspiration for his works: How do people use their smartphones at cultural events today? How can a creative process with European as well as Japanese artists be designed while perceptions of how to deal with creativity and personal means of expression vary wildly? He searches for clear images to depict everyday observations and impressions, x-raying or inverting emotions, turning ugliness into beauty. In September 2009, he brought his first feature-length solo choreography Jailbreak Mind to the stage, which got him invited to Deutsche Tanzplattform (German Dance Platform) in 2010. His work, SOMA Projekt – a German-Japanese co-production featuring Japanese performers and former Tanztheater Wuppertal dancers – saw a double premiere in Tokio and Düsseldorf in the summer of 2015.

Fabien Prioville concluded his studies at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine (CNDC) in Angers. Following this, he received an engagement with Édouard Lock and his La La La Human Steps company in Canada before leaving to work with Philippe Blanchard in Stockholm. Then, in 1999, he switched to Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal. He has been working as a freelance dancer and choreographer with Josef Nadj and Davis Freeman, among others. Commissioned works took him to New York’s Juilliard School, to Japan and Australia. The fabien prioville dance company has its seat in Düsseldorf. Since 2009, it has been co-producing dance theatre on the fringes of performing arts and multimedia with the tanzhaus nrw, Düsseldorf.
