E-Motion

Hip hop collective E-Motion comprises members of Berlin B-Boy crew flying steps – Amigo and Benny Kimoto -, Takao Baba from Düsseldorf and Lil’ Rock and Andrea Böge from Stuttgart.
In dance, they continue to develop different stylistic directions within hip hop like poppin’, lockin’, New Style, housedance, krumpin’ and b-boyin’. Merging dance styles with virtuosity, they have long gone beyond the aesthetics of MTV; instead breeding their own, authentic language of movement. Additionally, they incorporate elements of folkloristic dances like flamenco and Turkish Zeybek, time and again citing classical ballet; not the least part being the stage decoration, consisting of three barres which come into use in startling variations. Everything is possible on this empty stage; a battle with an alter ego from a computer game, a love duet, two krumpers who seem bereft of their status symbols, their sports sneakers; two women, effortlessly holding their own in a man’s world. All this is soundtracked with electronics which lack only one genre, hip hop.
Their first hip hop production at the tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf took to the stage in 2003; and in 2008, they already received an invitation to the German Dance Platform with 2nd ID.

Takao Baba, together with Amigo, founded Dance Unity in 2004. Dance Unity is an organization which links the urban dance scene internationally and also acts as the presenter of the globally renowned urban dance battle “Funkin’ Stylez“, which is carried out in ten cities across the globe by now. Nadia Espiritu works nationally as a choreographer and guest lecturer, aiming for the integration of hip hop into school curriculae. Kadir Memis aka Amigo founded flying steps, of which Benny Kimoto is also a part. Flying steps hold numerous world championship titles of international b-boy-battles and established their own dance school in Berlin in 2007. Turkish-born Amigo also pursues his own solo projects. Niranh Chanthabouasy aka Lil’ Rock has been dancing since 1992, and today, he works as dancer and choreographer. Apart from hip hop and Flamenco, Andrea Böge specializes in hip hop. For four years now, she has been developing different projects for youths in conjunction with publicly funded street work aimed at young people.
