Over the last fifty years, circus internationally has undergone a remarkable transformation. As a progressive form of circus, the “contemporary circus” has conquered a new position within society. In Germany, too, the art form is currently developing rapidly.

The two editors of the book “Circus in flux” Tim Behren and Jenny Patschovsky introduce the art form of contemporary circus and show artistic positions with three film works. French circus artist Chloé Moglia plays with air space and creates a physical masterpiece of weightlessness. The Cologne collective Raum für Zirkus lets their bodies slide through the most diverse spatial dimensions and the documentary film “About Julian Vogel” gives insight into creative methods of the young Swiss artist, who blurs the distinction between installation and performance.
