AWARD: Hennermanns Horde awarded Karfunkel – prize for youth theatre

Hennermann’s Horde was awarded the Karfunkel Children’s and Youth Theatre Prize for the second time.

The prize is awarded for the ensemble’s artistic engagement and mediation work with the circumstances surrounding the Corona crisis, which has found expression in several projects and productions since the beginning of the pandemic. The overall programme is entitled “No Fear – Hennermann’s Horde confronts (Corona) Fear!”.

The jury’s statement: “With ‘Angsthasen’ for younger children and ‘Gänsehaut & Espenlaub’ for children aged eight and up, Hennermanns Horde has created two stage plays that approach fear between horror and comedy, with dance, music and objects. Fears that can be laughed away, like the fear of scary monsters, but also fears of death, failure and loneliness, which are on the minds of many children, especially during the pandemic. With ‘Tanz mit!’, a series of video clips with specially composed music, Hennermanns Horde has also been developing a format since spring 2020 that offers dance and communication from the children’s world of life and movement. At a time when children in particular are severely limited in their possibilities for movement and expression, the 15 or so clips, which combine dance, theatre pedagogy and a creative approach to the moving image, have linked children together, encouraged them to artistic expression and exchange, and created a sense of togetherness. With ‘Vacuum’, a film has also been created that gives a voice to those groups that have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic: senior citizens, kindergarten and school children.
