PREMIERE: Pressspan // Artmann&Duvoisin // 23/10/19 // Kulturbunker Köln-Mülheim
Pressspan is a performative examination of living conditions in Cologne-Mülheim, the district in which Elsa Artmann & Samuel Duvoisin live. In the summer of 2019 they invited themselves to short residences in the private apartments of their neighbours, changed their premises by reinstalling the pressboard found in abundance in Cologne-Mülheim’s bulky rubbish and made it accessible to the public in home performances. Social differences materialize in the home: Mülheim as a neighbourhood in which people with unequal socio-economic resources live in the neighbourhood makes this particularly tangible; the different use of the neighbourhood makes the reality of each other’s lives easily the backdrop. How do the layouts, layouts and availability of rentable housing influence ideas of possible community?
The choreographies created in the private space deal with spatial and social conditions in a performative way and present possibilities of neighbourly cooperation from street festivals to vigilantes for discussion. In interaction with the architectural conditions, the dance makes dimensions of inequality, favourable and poor location physically tangible. The stage version of Pressspan, which celebrates its premiere in the Kulturbunker on 23 October, brings together the interiors celebrated in dance and sculpture and invites confrontation with the living conditions surrounding us.
