“A cosmos of faces.”
Dancers of the CocoonDance Company embark on an interdisciplinary journey together with actors of the Darmstädter Ensemble. While CocoonDance had always covered the face in their plays, the cooperation with the acting ensemble in KÖRPERTREFFER now brings it into focus: What if the face no longer plays the leading role of human identity in times of virtual reality and “fake news” at the latest?
If the distinctions traditionally negotiated on the face, such as outside and inside, natural and artificial, norm and deviation, man and monster, were exceeded. In their study “Mille Plateaux”, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari speak of the face as a “horror story”, indeed even describe it as “the inhuman in man”, and go on to explain: if man exists, he must escape the face, the future of the face would only lie in its dissolution. CocoonDance tries nothing less than this in KÖRPERTREFFER.
In the interplay of different media, bodies, language and digital means, the artists jointly develop diverse, posthuman forms of perception: A “cosmos of faces” emerges.
