PREMIERE: ATLAS 2 – Dialog of One // Emanuele Soavi Incompany // 21/9/19 // Zentrum für Zeitgenössischen Tanz, Köln
In ATLAS 2 – Dialogue of One, Emanuele Soavi and his artistic team as well as scientists, students and partner institutions set out on a collective search for allegedly “lost” German dance artists from the 1920s to the 1940s. Because of their non-heteronormative sexuality, which was also expressed in their artistic works, they found themselves exposed to a constant threat, either had to flee Germany or largely cease their work, and were confronted again and again with the question of what (their) art is allowed to do. In the artistic work of Sebastian Droste, Rudi Gernreich, Alfred Leschnitzer, Sascha Leontjew, and Sylvin Rubinstein, both an examination of one’s own sexual identity and the function of art as a catalyst for political reprisal can be recognized and analyzed.
