PREMIERE: MEDO / ANGST // Ben J. Riepe // 9/6/19 // Schauspiel Köln / Offenbachplatz /Sommerblut Festival
Fear – ‘Medo’ in Portuguese – is a predominant feeling in Brazil today. It affects the inhabitants of the periphery, the so-called favelas, artists, climate activists and LGTBQ activists in equal measure – they are all affected in their everyday lives by restrictions, which in turn are born and fired by the prevailing atmosphere of fear of the foreign and the other. Does this fear arise from life realities that are distant or almost frighteningly close to our own? What connects us, what separates us in the subjective experience of our realities?
In MEDO/ANGST, social and quite individual fear as an underlying attitude to life becomes the starting point for a new work.
A production by Ben J. Riepe, Baobá Produções Artísticas, Centro Cultural Plataforma and the Goethe Institut, in co-production with the Asphalt Festival Düsseldorf. A collaboration with the Sommerblut Festival Cologne and the Weltkunstzimmer Düsseldorf.
