PREMIERE: Signifying Ghosts – EX-SITU // COCOONDANCE COMPANY // 12/6/2019 // theaterimballsaal
With the project, initiated by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes in the TURN – Fonds für künstlerische Kooperationen zwischen Deutschland und Afrikanischen Ländern (Fund for Artistic Cooperation between Germany and African Countries), which is scheduled to run for a total of two years in several work phases and sponsored project “Signifying Ghosts”, four extraordinary personalities who stand for mediation between Africa and Europe with previous projects are cooperating.
EX-SITU, the part-project of CocoonDance Company, is the result of the re-reading and re-appropriation of an earlier choreographic work by CocoonDance. Following the concept of the overall project SIGNIFYING GHOSTS, the movement material is read with the eyes of foreign choreographers, interpreted and transformed through the material of unfamiliar bodies with a different cultural background. The new impulse for this work now lies in forming these heterogeneous individual bodies into a whole, a complete organism; into a structure, held together by skin, cells, organs and limbs, communicating and acting within itself.
SIGNIFYING GHOSTS is a cooperation of CocoonDance, DONKO SEKO (Mali) and the Centre for Contemporary Dance at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
SIGNIFYING GHOSTS is supported by the Fonds TURN of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes, the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Federal City of Bonn, the Kunststiftung NRW, Theatre-ProVS, Le Conseil de la Culture Etat du Valais and La Loterie Romande.
In co-production with the Goethe-Institut (International Co-Production Fund) and the Kunstfest Weimar.
