Modern European and Eastern art forms have informed the works of Sabine Seume. Her first plays were widely influenced by mythological patterns and images, whereas her current works are geared towards recent social and political events. Collaborating with artists, especially visual artists, from diverse genres, numerous dance theatre productions were created which have garnered multiple awards and nominations. Apart from solo work and plays for adults, the ensemble has set a focus on working on productions for children and young adults for the past five years now, combining a longing for fantasy with a desire for movement.
Sabine Seume studied dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen under the direction of Pina Bausch. After several engagements, she went to Japan to dance in the Carlotta Ikeda’s Butoh company Ariadone for the duration of six years. The works of Sabine Seume are still marked by Eastern influences to this day. Since 2003, she has been passionately involving herself in professional dance theatre for children and young adolescents. Der Seelenvogel was awarded the audience award for best play at the 25th Kinder- und Jugendtheatertreffen NRW in 2009.
