Pottporus/Renegade has been realizing freelance dance theatre productions with a focus on street art in collaboration with international partners, dancers, choreographers and cultural institutions since 2003. With regards to content, their plays revolve around the lifes and realities of the young generation, whereas the artistic translation utilizes different art forms of street art (such as graffiti and VJing), break dance as well as modern dance. Classically trained dancers perform alongside Germany’s best street dancers. This results in a form of dance theatre which sets international benchmarks in the genre of hip hop theatre. Renegade collaborates with young, talented artists like Frenchman Lorca Renoux as well as with, relating to the respective project at hand, freelance, internationally renowned choreographers like Samir Akika or Malou Airaudo in the fields of direction and choreography. Renegade has long been one of the most important creative pools of German hip hop dance theatre and has been awarded numerous prizes. And so, Irgendwo ("Somewhere") recently received an invitation to the Tanzplattform 2012 in Dresden as one of Germany’s ten best dance productions.
Since the 2010/11 season, Renegade has been residing at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, where one feature-length production per season takes shape under the artistic direction of Pottporus e.V./ Renegade, and where it also enters the repertoire of the Schauspielhaus itself. Malou Airaudo marked the beginning of the residency with her play Irgendwo, which was enthusiastically celebrated by audiences and subsequently shown more than 20 times at the Bochum Kammerspiele. During the 2011/12 season, this was followed up by Der verlorene Drache ("The lost dragon") under the same direction.
