MOUVOIR / Stephanie Thiersch developed her unique working method as well as an unmistakable signature style, to be witnessed on several conceptual levels. Body codes, mimesis and gesture, engraved as well as undefined, serve as a fertile soil for artistic reflection, especially within the context of our surrounding media reality and its social and political effects. Another staple of MOUVOIR is its amalgamation of different artistic means in order to create a discrete language apart from clear codes and intellectual definition. Often inspired by pictorial material in current media, TV documentaries, internet streams and magazine shootings as well as observations on posture and gesture of today’s humans within their different situations in live, all this serves as the origin for the work on choreographies.
Stephanie Thiersch studied classical and contemporary dance (eg. CNC Montpellier, Dominique Bagouet) and worked as a dancer in France and Germany for several years. At the same time, she studied humanities at the University of Mannheim and later enrolled for post-graduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne with performance artist Valie Export. Fine arts, contemporary photography and literature accordingly form the basis of Thiersch’s artistic approach. She developed award-winning stage plays, films and installations with her company MOUVOIR, founded in 1999. With her cinematographically imbued aesthetics, those works are being shown on stages and festivals around the globe. With Under green Ground she was also invited to the German Dance Platform in 2006.
