Guido Markowitz’s work is diverse. He stages and choreographs his own works for independent and communally-based dance companies; and he also gets engaged as a choreographer for musicals, opera and theatre. He puts special emphasis on his work with young people. He realized a string of productions for young people, among other venues at the tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf, among other venues. Parallel to his work as choreographer and director, he also keeps busy as educator and lecturer.
Guido Markowitz studied classical ballet, contemporary and modern dance in Austria as well as at the Iwanson School for Contemporary Dance in Munich. His first engagements led him to guest at the Bavarian State Opera. Following this, he held an engagement at the Städtische Bühnen Münster before he became a soloist and choreographer at the dance theatre section of the Staatstheater Darmstadt in 1996. Since 2004, Guido Markowitz has been working as a freelance choreographer and director. In 2010, he founded the Schritt.Art Tanzcompany, in close collaboration with Tarek Assam, ballet director at the Stadttheater Gießen.
